We are deepening our understanding of the materials, and I look forward to our further studies.

Sri Aurobindo Learning Center in Crestone, CO.

Study Group - Sunday Mornings
Sri Aurobindo’s : The Synthesis of Yoga
Early in January of this New Year of 2016 the
Sri Aurobindo Learning Center will be
hosting a new teacher, Dr. Eric Weiss, who has recently moved to
town. Eric, who was a professor of Philosophy and Religion at the
California Institute of Integral Studies, will be presenting a course
on Sri Aurobindo’s text The Synthesis of Yoga. This will take place at
the center on Sunday mornings at the new time of 10:30 am,
starting on November 20, at 83
Baca Grant Way in Crestone.
While many people have heard of Sri Aurobindo, few are fully
aware of the scope of his work. He was not only a spiritual teacher,
but a political revolutionary, a philosopher, a social critic and a
cosmologist. As we study the text, we will take the time to appreciate
all of the different aspects of his teachings. We will pay particular
attention to Sri Aurobindo’s cosmology— a magnificent story which
synthesizes East and West in a full reconciliation of spiritual aspiration
with evolutionary thought.
Sri Aurobindo is notoriously difficult to read. His language,
while superficially daunting, has the power, when intensely studied,
to invoke the Divine Presence. In this class, we will not only be studying
Sri Aurobindo’s ideas, but also learning how to read his texts.
This class will resemble a Tibetan tri, in which students are “initiated”
in the study of the text by reading it, in a group, with one who
knows the text well. It will also resemble a Catholic lecta divina, a
group of students who, through the quality of their attention, let the
Divine presence shine through the ideas that they are studying.
If you have studied Sri Aurobindo, this class will deepen your
understanding. If you have not studied him before, this class will
be an excellent introduction. Feel free to drop in on any Sunday.
A suggested donation of $10 / session is asked but not required.
